Reflecting on SPARK 2024: Another Milestone for The Purple House

The Purple House had the privilege of participating in the National Hostel Management Seminar (SPARK) 2024, a landmark event aimed at advancing hostel management across higher education institutions (HEIs) in Malaysia. Hosted from 20th to 22nd May 2024, this seminar achieved remarkable success by fostering insightful discussions and promoting the exchange of knowledge among attendees.

SPARK 2024 owes its success to the unwavering support from the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and the collaboration of the Council of Public University Housing (MAPUM). Their contributions, alongside the dedicated efforts of all participants, were pivotal to the seamless execution of the seminar.

Engaging Discussions and Knowledge Sharing

Throughout the event, paper presenters and participants engaged in dynamic discussions, presenting a range of ideas and solutions pertinent to student accommodation. This vibrant exchange of knowledge plays a crucial role in shaping a better living environment for students, ultimately enhancing their academic and personal growth.

We also extend special recognition to Sally Qian Lan, our Community & People Development Director, for presenting the paper titled ‘Empowering Professionals in the Student Accommodation Industry: The Essential Role of Associations in Professional Development and Support’. Her presentation highlighted the critical role of professional associations in the development and support of professionals within the student accommodation sector.

SPARK serves as an essential platform for HEI hostel management teams to share their experiences and learn about best practices. It underscores the importance of providing conducive living conditions, which are vital for boosting students’ proactivity and overall success.

Celebrating Achievements and Contributions

Our team at The Purple House is proud to have made significant contributions to SPARK 2024. We were honoured with the ‘Anugerah Poster Terbaik’ award under ‘Sub-tema 2: Peranan Pentadbir dan Pengetua dalam Pembentukan Ciri-ciri Kepimpinan serta Sahsiah di Kalangan Pelajar’. This accolade is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our paper writers, Mohd Aidil Mohd Ali and Hafizatul Salma Harif Fathilah, and our in-house graphic designer, Nur Harissa Qistina Hisham Kamal, who skillfully translated the entire paper into a compelling poster.

The closing ceremony of SPARK 2024, held at the prestigious H Elite Design Hotel in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, was a momentous occasion. Among 227 participants from 20 public universities and 5 private universities, our team’s outstanding performance was recognized and celebrated.

Acknowledging Key Contributors

A special round of applause goes to our Strategic Director, Daniel Lee, for his insightful contributions as a panelist during Wednesday’s forum. His perspectives added great value to the discussions and enriched the seminar.

Reflecting on the meaningful interactions and valuable insights gained from SPARK 2024, we at The Purple House are excited about the future of hostel management practices. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all contributors and participants and look forward to reuniting at the next SPARK event.

Stay tuned for more updates and insights from our experiences at SPARK 2024. Together, let’s continue striving towards excellence in student accommodation management.
