2022年马来西亚APSAA活动
23 attendees from 9 local on-campus student accommodation providers representing public universities, government-linked universities as well as private colleges and universities attended the ‘APSAA Asia Event-Malaysia 2022’ in Subang Jaya, Selangor recently. This was the first APSAA networking event in Southeast Asia, in line with APSAA’s strategic plan on leadership, learning, and leverage in student accommodation in the Asia-Pacific region. The attendees were introduced to APSAA and also the benefits of joining APSAA- a few participating institutions have expressed interest to join APSAA as well!
The event was hosted by Daniel Lee, representing APSAA, and 3 other invited panel members, each of whom represented a public university, Dr. Nor Azura A. Rahman from Universiti Utara Malaysia, a government-linked university, Mr. Saravanan A/L Muthiah from Universiti Teknologi Petronas, and a private university, Mr. Sri Velan from The Purple House/Sunway Education Group/Infrastructure University Kuala Lumpur.
The main topic discussed was the upcoming challenges and opportunities faced by the Malaysian student accommodation industry, which also covered other topics such as rising costs, manpower issues, rental pressures, and student support in the post-pandemic period.
After the lunch break, the attendees participated in a study tour of two residences – Nook Co-Living and Waterfront Residence where they were taken for a tour of show units as well as communal facilities.
The take-home message from this networking event is that there are big changes coming in the student housing industry due to overall rising costs and severe manpower shortage issues. This will of course impact future rental pricing and Malaysian student accommodation providers will need to adapt to the new environment in creative ways.
Thank you for attending our APSAA Asia Event – Malaysia 2022 event. We hope you enjoyed the experience and we look forward to seeing you at the next event.
Keep in touch, everyone!
